I came across this NY Times article by chance (click title to go to the online link). To me, it was simply a reminder how the media gravitates to one story..and makes it the entire news story for their 30 minute nightly show...for weeks at a time. For the last weeks/month, we've had the Haiti disaster shown nightly..and kinda shoved down our throats. Don't get me wrong..its sad and tragic. I've helped by texting money to the relief. The earthquake in Haiti turned out to be a disaster that has killed tens of thousands of people. Very sad. To see the kids, everyone suffering, makes me rethink what i bitch and moan about each day. With that said..the war in the Congo is sadly ignored. Talking about disaster and tragedy..a study has determined that more than 5 million people have died since April of 2007. That's unheard of. The reports of how these militia have run through these villages like hurricanes..leaving everything in its path in pieces. Literally and figuratively. Very sad.
When I read this story and similiar events like these around the world..it challenges my beliefs and faith. Its sad to think that it takes a natural disaster or some major celebrity to get one's attention. This is as real as it gets. I encourage you to read the story and share with me your thoughts. I simply ask WHY? Then I ask..WHAT can we do about it? No immediate answers here. This isn't about black, white, red or yellow. Its about human life. I read the stories..and simply wish peace for those who continue to suffer.
Peace out my HALEYUNNS!
